Ghana and China are strengthening ties to modernize mining operations through technological innovation and artificial intelligence, aiming to make the sector safer, greener, and more efficient.
At a summit hosted by Huawei Ghana and the Association of China-Ghana Mining (ACGM), industry leaders showcased innovations designed to curb environmental damage, boost safety, and improve efficiency in mining. Stakeholders noted that the sector still battles illegal mining, land disputes, and ecological degradation.
Tang Zhejiang, President of ACGM, stressed that while mining drives economic growth, it must urgently shift toward environmentally friendly practices. Discussions highlighted green mining initiatives such as land restoration, biodiversity preservation, and carbon reduction efforts.

Huawei Ghana’s General Manager, Cao Hongyu, emphasized artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital tools as central to transforming the industry while cutting costs. He also underscored the need for strong cybersecurity frameworks to protect assets and workers.
Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, called for a sustainable blueprint that includes converting reclaimed lands into agriculture, expanding solar energy, and minimizing environmental damage to create long-term community benefits.
