The Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Hafsum-Agricultural Enterprises, has conducted a one-day training program for smallholder fish farmers in Damaturu. The training aimed to boost the agricultural sector and create opportunities for economic growth in the state.
The training session was held on Thursday at the Yobe Children’s Academy Natural Resources, inaugurated the program and emphasized its significance as a key component of the Yobe State Government’s agricultural revitalization initiative.
Goniri reiterated the commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to rejuvenate the agricultural sector and stimulate economic activities in the state.

He assured that the government would create a conducive environment to encourage the expansion of fish farming across Yobe State.
Dr. Musa Abba Kollere, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, highlighted the state’s abundant riverine resources, which make it ideal for aquaculture practices. He emphasized that fish farming would not only enhance food security but also reduce unemployment and drive economic growth.
Kollere urged the participants, including many retired civil servants, to actively engage in fish farming and take advantage of the opportunities presented by the training program.
As part of the support package, each participant received 100 fingerlings, feeds, and a fish pond to kickstart their fish farming ventures.
This comprehensive support is expected to empower the participants to successfully establish and operate their own fish farms.
