As part of its ongoing efforts to mitigate the effects of the elimination of subsidies, the Oyo State Government announced on Saturday that it will provide 1,691 poultry farmers in the state with around 11,000 bags of poultry feed.
While kicking off the World Egg Day in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, disclosed this.
He claims that this will improve and enhance the state’s food security.
He said that as part of the program’s first phase, 1,691 poultry farmers would receive feed for their birds, along with 1691 fish farmers, 2537 farmers of cereals, and 2539 farmers of cattle, sheep, and goats.
The Oyo State Government has a legitimate interest in regulating the poultry industry in the state, according to Barrister Olasunkwnmi, who said that the contributions made by poultry farmers to food security cannot be understated.
He pointed out that having precise information about poultry producers in the state would be helpful to the ministry in ensuring high-quality production for the general populace.
11,000 sacks of feed have been reserved for chicken farmers, according to Barr. Olasunkanmi, who also added that reliable data can only aid the ministry in extending the government’s goodwill toward the poultry industry.
He added that because of the industry’s ongoing losses, particularly during this time of high feed prices, surveillance of their operations was required.

In order to increase the profitability of poultry farmers, assure robust day-old chicks, and improve standardization of poultry products processing in the state, he said that one of the areas about which they were particularly concerned was feeding. “We will monitor feeds production that are to be given to birds,” he said.
In order to improve food security in the state and keep in mind that the government cannot do everything, the Commissioner consequently called on the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN).
In his remarks, Elder Omidokun Oyekunle, Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria’s (PAN) Oyo State branch, noted that every 13th of October is observed as World Egg Day to promote the importance of eating eggs on a regular basis.
He said that an egg is a complete diet, including all the essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that the body needs.
He emphasized that by giving people job opportunities, the poultry industry has helped the State government eradicate poverty.
In comparison to previous state administrations, the association’s chairman recognized that PAN in the State has an excellent connection with the current administration.
He also gave the government his word that PAN was prepared to cooperate with it through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to end quarrelling in the chicken industry.
The group gave eggs to students at IMG Primary School in Total Garden, Ibadan, along with ministry staff.
At the Iwo-road junction in the state capital, there was a public display of dishes prepared from eggs as part of the celebration of World Egg Day this year.
