The World Bank has sanctioned a $50 million fund to tackle Nigeria’s escalating nutrition challenges under the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) 2.0 project.
Country Director Ndiame Diop disclosed this during a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, noting it as part of a crisis response effort.
The fund, according to Diop, will support nutrition interventions across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas (LGAs). Trina Haque, the World Bank’s Practice Manager for Health, Nutrition, and Population, emphasized the need for targeted nutrition education for children and adolescents to enhance early child development.

Vice President Shettima introduced the N-774 Initiative—a localized, community-driven approach that builds on ANRiN’s progress and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s focus on sustainable, Nigerian-owned solutions to malnutrition.
Shettima highlighted that the initiative will embed nutrition across education, health, agriculture, and social protection sectors, leveraging political will to achieve swift, impactful results.
He expressed optimism that the initiative, supported by federal and sub-national governments along with international partners, will foster significant improvements in community health outcomes.
