The Enugu State Government has started building a new International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Market at 9th Mile, near Enugu, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, announced this during a meeting with the Enugu Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Association, Coal Camp, Enugu.
Dr. Ogbu-Nwobodo highlighted that this project aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s campaign promise to establish a world-class market for the association. He pointed out the poor conditions at Coal Camp, where traders currently operate in hazardous and unproductive environments.
“During the campaign, traders requested a more suitable location for their businesses,” Ogbu-Nwobodo said. “Construction has now begun, and the governor is committed to ensuring their business growth.”
The new market will serve as a modern business hub, featuring shops, warehouses, police posts, fire protection, banks, parks, schools, health facilities, and recreational areas to support commercial and light industrial activities.

Ogbu-Nwobodo explained that 9th Mile was strategically chosen to enhance business development in the area and provide better access for traders from the North, Ebonyi, Cross River, Central Africa, and other regions. The new site will simplify the logistics of loading and unloading goods by avoiding the city’s traffic.
Chief Mike Nomeh, the association’s president, expressed relief and hope, noting that previous administrations had ignored the traders’ needs. He urged the governor to expedite the market’s completion, given the poor conditions at Coal Camp. Benjamin Eze, a long-time trader at Coal Camp, praised the governor’s initiative, expressing optimism about the project’s benefits.
“I encourage the governor to continue this progress for the benefit of all traders,” Eze said.
