Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), launched the Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Programme on Thursday in Abuja, distributing 80 vehicles to local youth as part of the initiative. The program aims to provide financial empowerment and reduce transportation costs across the FCT.

Wike explained that the vehicles will initially operate in Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape before expanding to other areas. He emphasized that the vehicles, which are brand new and painted in FCT colors, will be given to the first beneficiaries at no cost, provided they charge lower transport fees for residents.

“This initiative is designed to help you provide for your families while also addressing transportation costs in the city,” Wike stated, adding that more vehicles would be procured to ensure a comprehensive transportation system by January, phasing out unregulated commercial tricycles.

The minister also announced a N10 billion fund approved by President Bola Tinubu for youth development, urging the Youth Development Secretariat to create a proposal focused on skills acquisition and other beneficial programs. Wike stressed the need for meaningful use of the funds, stating, “We are committed to changing the lives of FCT’s youth.”
