In the fast-evolving digital world, businesses must either adapt or get left behind. One woman helping SMEs navigate this digital revolution is Adeola Eka, popularly known as “D Digitech Wonderwoman.” A brand SEO strategist, digital consultant, and AI automation expert, Eka has helped thousands of businesses establish strong online visibility and leverage digital tools for growth.
In this exclusive spotlight interview, she shares her journey, strategies for digital transformation, and why visibility is the new currency for small businesses.
Your journey into the digital space is inspiring. Can you tell us how it all started?
My entry into the digital world was not planned, it was a mix of curiosity, necessity, and passion. I began my career in the telecoms industry (Vmobile/Airtel), where I learned the impact of technology on businesses. But I felt there was more I could do.
With encouragement from my husband, I took a digital marketing course at Shaw Academy in 2016. I started with content creation, ventured into tech, and later taught robotics at CCHub.
Then, during the 2019 lockdown, I saw the urgent need for people to earn online. That’s when I fully pivoted into digital marketing.
Today, I’m a Google Certified Search and Display Ads Specialist, a Bing Certified Ads Specialist, and a HubSpot SEO Specialist. I run an AI-driven SEO agency, helping businesses dominate the online space.
I’ve also trained over 2,000 women and youths, helping them harness digital skills to transform their businesses. My mission is simple: turn businesses into digital powerhouses.
What’s one major lesson you’ve learned that every SME owner should know?
One truth I always emphasize is: “Visibility is Currency.” You can have the best product or service, but if people can’t find you online, your business is practically non-existent.
Small businesses must stop relying solely on referrals and traditional marketing. SEO, social media, and digital storytelling are key to ensuring your brand is seen, heard, and trusted. The more visible you are, the more sales you attract.
Many SMEs struggle to transition online. What’s the first step they should take?
Create a business website – This is your online storefront. Social media is good, but algorithms change. Your website is your foundation.
Get on Google My Business – If you’re not on Google, you’re invisible. This makes you discoverable and credible.
Develop a content strategy – Share valuable content, FAQs, and product insights to build trust with customers.
Going digital isn’t about being everywhere; it’s about being where your customers search, scroll, and shop.
SEO can be complex. Can you break it down for small businesses?
Think of SEO like a shop on a busy Lagos street. If your store is hidden in an alley, no one finds you. But if it’s on the main road with a big signboard, customers flood in.
Here’s how SMEs can rank higher on Google:
Use the Right Keywords – Find out what customers are searching for and include those words on your website and social media.
Optimize Your Website – Ensure it loads fast, is mobile-friendly, and easy to navigate.
Create Quality Content – Google loves blogs, FAQs, and informative articles. The more you help users, the higher you rank.
Get Backlinks – If trusted websites link to yours, Google sees you as an authority.
SEO is a free, powerful, and long-term way for small businesses to compete with big brands.
With a tight budget, should SMEs invest in paid ads or organic growth?
Both have their place:
Short-term (Paid Ads) – If you need quick sales, invest in Google, Facebook, or TikTok ads. But ads are like rent—once you stop paying, visibility disappears.
Long-term (Organic SEO & Content Marketing) – This ensures consistent visibility without daily spending.
How to Boost Online Visibility in 3 Simple Steps
Many SMEs feel invisible online. Here’s how to change that:
Optimize your social media bio – Clearly state what you do and include a call-to-action (CTA).
Engage daily – Post valuable content, respond to comments, and stay relevant.
Leverage collaborations – Partner with influencers or complementary businesses to expand your reach.
SMEs can work smarter, not harder with free/affordable AI tools:
ChatGPT, Deepseek AI – Generate content, captions, and emails in seconds.
Blaze AI – Automate marketing and design.
Heygen, CapCut, Opus Clip – Create stunning video ads without hiring editors.
Tidio, Manychat – Automate customer service 24/7.
AI allows small businesses to compete with big brands—without needing a big budget!
Many SME owners fear digital due to scams or lack of knowledge. What’s your advice?
Fear is real, but so is opportunity. Here’s how to overcome it:
Start Small – Open a business Instagram, list on Google, and grow from there.
Educate Yourself – Take free courses (Google Digital Garage, HubSpot, Udemy).
Work with Experts – If tech isn’t your strength, hire a consultant or mentor.
Scams exist, but secure digital tools and knowledge help you navigate safely.
What should small businesses start preparing for now?
The future is digital-first. SMEs that embrace AI, personalized marketing, and automation will dominate. To stay ahead:
Invest in AI-powered customer engagement (chatbots, email marketing).
Build a strong SEO & content strategy (Google is the new storefront).
Leverage video marketing – Short-form content is king!
You’ve trained over 2,000 women. What mindset shifts do women need to succeed in tech and business?
Women must:
Stop waiting for permission – Own your expertise and put yourself out there.
Embrace visibility – The more people see you, the more opportunities come your way.
Leverage free AI tools – Money is not a barrier; digital tools help you start small and grow.
What’s your advice for young entrepreneurs trying to build a digital business?
Be Consistent – Success isn’t instant, but consistency compounds.
Adapt Fast – Trends change, stay ahead or get left behind.
Leverage Digital Tools – AI, SEO, and automation are game-changers.
Start NOW! – Perfection is a myth. Action beats overthinking.
