The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has restated its dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector through transparent and collaborative programs aligned with the country’s laws.
In a statement from the US Mission in Nigeria, USAID revealed it has supported over five million Nigerian farmers since 2019, significantly boosting food production and strengthening rural economies nationwide.
The agency addressed recent media misrepresentations of its agricultural initiatives, emphasizing its role in empowering local agencies to improve regulatory processes for agricultural biotechnology.
“All our programs are developed and implemented in partnership with Nigerian experts, farmers, and government officials to ensure their relevance and effectiveness,” the statement noted.
USAID highlighted its focus on providing practical support, including market access, agricultural training, and research collaboration, while ensuring research findings and program details remain accessible through official channels.

“Our agricultural partnership reflects a shared commitment to tackling Nigeria’s food security challenges with locally-driven solutions,” the agency affirmed.
The US Mission also underscored its ongoing engagement with Nigerian stakeholders, maintaining regular consultations with farmers, experts, and government agencies while respecting Nigeria’s agricultural sovereignty and traditions.
“We are proud to support Nigerian farmers while honoring their local traditions and practices,” the statement concluded.
