USADF, LSETF, partner to empower 400 Nigerian youth with vocational skills

The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) has joined forces with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) and the Field of Skills and Dreams VTE Academy (FSD) to provide vocational training to 400 young people and women in Lagos State.

This initiative aims to address youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

A grant from USADF will support a 12-week training program at FSD, covering skills in catering, hospitality, green fashion design, and natural hair and beauty care. Upon completion, trainees will receive three months of internship placements to gain practical experience.

Travis Adkins, USADF President and CEO, emphasized the U.S. government’s commitment to empowering African youth and women. “We believe that by providing them with the necessary skills, we can help them create their own paths to success,” he stated.


Omowale Ogunrinde, Founder and CEO of FSD, highlighted the academy’s 21-year history of social service and its proven track record of producing skilled graduates. “Our programs are designed to help people achieve their goals through practical entrepreneurial and vocational training,” she said.

Adewumi Oni, Director of Finance and Corporate Services at LSETF, expressed gratitude for USADF’s support and assured Lagos residents of the agency’s commitment to providing free training and upskilling opportunities.

The partnership between USADF, LSETF, and FSD is a significant step towards addressing youth unemployment and empowering individuals to contribute to the economic development of Lagos State.
