US Consulate, Pelse Consulting groom young Nigerian entrepreneurs for community impact

The United States Consulate, in partnership with Lagos-based Pelse Consulting, has convened a business dialogue aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders in Nigeria.

The event, themed “Building Businesses that Build Better Communities,” brought together participants from across Lagos State, including members of the Mandela Washington Fellows Outreach.

Speaking at the Yaba, Lagos event, US Consulate representative Riase Dukas underscored the critical role small businesses play in driving innovation, job creation, and economic growth.

She reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to fostering partnerships between Nigerian entrepreneurs and US businesses while highlighting opportunities offered through the Mandela Washington Fellowship programme.

Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, said the dialogue was designed to encourage purpose-driven entrepreneurship that prioritises people, job creation, and community value beyond profit.

He highlighted the impact of the state’s Amplifier Business Clinic and Accelerator, which has supported young entrepreneurs with over ₦40 million in funding since inception.

Pelse Consulting Managing Partner, Adeniji Boboye, noted that SMEs contribute 48% of Nigeria’s GDP and 70% of employment, stressing the need for sustainable business models and strong corporate social responsibility.

He urged entrepreneurs to align profit with purpose, adding that businesses that invest in their communities build stronger, more resilient economies.
