President Bola Tinubu has underscored the pivotal role of the creative economy in Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy, positioning it as a cornerstone for driving the nation’s global influence.
Speaking at the 2024 Abuja International Carnival, held at Eagle Square, Abuja, and represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu emphasized the significance of cultural heritage and the creative sector in bolstering the economy.
“We are not here just to celebrate a carnival but to reaffirm the essence of who we are as Nigerians—a people of culture, art, and shared values,” Tinubu stated, highlighting the carnival’s role in showcasing Nigeria’s cultural diplomacy.
Themed “Carnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Country,” the event celebrated Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, with performances from across the nation and beyond. Tinubu noted the economic impact of such events, citing the growing contribution of creative industries to Nigeria’s GDP.
“This carnival revitalizes local industries, fosters cultural diplomacy, and strengthens Nigeria’s position as a cultural powerhouse globally,” he said.

Addressing international participants, Tinubu emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, stating, “Their presence affirms that culture transcends boundaries. Through cultural exchange, we build bridges of understanding and shared humanity.”
The president commended the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, along with the Federal Capital Territory Administration, for their role in organizing the event, praising their “vision and dedication.”
Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, described the carnival as a unifying platform for artistic innovation and cultural exchange. Similarly, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, represented by a senior official, called the event a testament to resilience, hope, and the unifying power of culture in Nigeria.
The Abuja International Carnival continues to highlight Nigeria’s vibrant cultural identity while contributing significantly to economic growth and national unity.
