TikTok’s Q3 2024 Transparency Report has highlighted Nigeria among the top 50 countries contributing to content policy violations. The platform reported removing 2.1 million videos from Nigeria, part of a global total of 147.8 million videos, as part of its ongoing efforts to uphold community guidelines centered on integrity, privacy, and safety.

Crackdown on Fraudulent and Underage Accounts

The report revealed a significant focus on detecting and removing fraudulent accounts and users suspected to be under the age of 13. During the period, TikTok:

Deleted 214.8 million accounts globally.

Removed 187.3 million fake accounts, the majority of fraudulent activity.

Suspended 24.3 million accounts linked to users under 13.

Eliminated 3.2 million accounts for unspecified reasons.

These actions underscore TikTok’s efforts to combat inauthentic activity and ensure a safer platform for its users.

“We remain vigilant in our efforts to detect external threats and safeguard the platform from fake accounts and engagement,” TikTok stated, emphasizing its commitment to quickly identifying and addressing any attempts to artificially boost popularity.

Additional Enforcement Actions

TikTok also detailed other significant actions taken to maintain its platform’s integrity:

1.3 billion comments were deleted from videos for policy violations.

12.2 million live sessions were suspended.

57.2 million fake followers and 1.1 billion fraudulent video likes were removed, with the company attributing these activities to automated or inauthentic mechanisms.

Advertising Policy Enforcement

Interestingly, the platform reported a decline in the number of ads removed for violating advertising policies or due to account-level enforcement actions in Q3 2024. While no specific figures were provided, this indicates possible improvements in ad compliance or a shift in enforcement priorities.

Nigeria’s Role in Policy Violations

Nigeria’s position among the top violators highlights the need for increased awareness and stricter adherence to TikTok’s guidelines within the country. With 2.1 million videos removed, Nigerian users must remain mindful of the platform’s policies to avoid penalties.

TikTok’s Commitment to Safety

TikTok’s aggressive measures demonstrate its dedication to creating a secure environment for its global community. The platform remains steadfast in addressing external threats, removing inauthentic activities, and fostering trust and transparency in its operations.

As TikTok continues to enforce its guidelines, users and advertisers alike are encouraged to contribute to a safer and more authentic digital space.
