The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Nigeria Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have emphasized the importance of adhering to international standards for manufacturers and importers operating in the country.
During the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (LCCI) International Business Conference & Expo 2024, Invest Nigeria, the agencies advised businesses to seek their guidance to ensure compliance with globally recognized standards.
Mrs. Theressa Ojomo, Director of SON’s Lagos Region, highlighted the significance of aligning with the Nigeria Industrial Standard (NIS) for both domestic and international trade. She explained that adherence to NIS ensures product quality and facilitates seamless movement of goods across borders.

Similarly, Mrs. Roseline Ajayi, Director of NAFDAC’s Southwest Zone, underscored the agency’s World Health Organization (WHO) certification, which validates its regulatory capabilities and enables certified products to be traded worldwide. She emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to international food management systems and drug safety standards.
Both agencies stressed the importance of conducting thorough inspections, both locally and internationally, to ensure product quality and compliance. NAFDAC’s Institute of Foreign Inspection plays a crucial role in this regard, conducting inspections in various regions, including Europe and the USA.
