The Sokoto State government has announced plans to distribute an additional ₦2.5 billion to small business owners as part of ongoing efforts to boost productivity and economic growth.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu made this disclosure at the NG-CARES Disbursement Day ceremony on Wednesday, emphasizing the state’s commitment to transforming Sokoto into a commercial hub for neighboring regions.
Governor Aliyu revealed that 14,000 new beneficiaries have been enrolled for this phase, with funds earmarked for disbursement to support the business community.
“Today marks a significant step in our mission to provide relief, support, and empowerment to the people of Sokoto State,” he stated.
The NG-CARES initiative, launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has already benefited over 8,590 small businesses through the Sokoto Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SOSMEDA), representing an 800% increase in beneficiaries compared to 2021.

The governor urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely to rebuild businesses and enhance community well-being.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable economic development through ongoing and future programs.
The event marks the start of a new chapter for economic recovery in Sokoto, with the governor promising further support and initiatives to drive entrepreneurship and growth in the state.
