Vice President Kashim Shettima officially inaugurated a significant upgrade project at the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne, Rivers State, signalling a major boost to Nigeria’s maritime sector.
APM Terminals, the global port operator, has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s economic growth with the completion of a $115 million upgrade at WACT. This investment will significantly enhance the terminal’s capacity, efficiency, and service delivery, making it a more attractive destination for global trade.

The upgraded WACT features a larger yard, state-of-the-art equipment, and advanced technology, including a new auto gate system, self-service kiosks, and a solar power plant. These improvements will reduce turnaround times for vessels, enhance security, and reduce the environmental impact of operations.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several government officials and industry leaders, who praised APM Terminals for its investment and expressed confidence in the terminal’s ability to drive economic growth in Nigeria and West Africa.
The $115 million upgrade is just the beginning of APM Terminals’ plans for Nigeria.
The company has announced its intention to invest an additional $500 million in the country over the next few years, further strengthening its position as a key player in the Nigerian maritime sector.
