The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) sensitization forum for sustainable development was held on Wednesday and benefited over one hundred stakeholders in micro, small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kwara State.

Ayobola Feyisipo Ayeni, the coordinator of SON in Kwara, said during the program in Ilorin that increased standardization was necessary for MSMEs to develop and for Nigerian goods to meet international standards.

Ayeni, who said that the event was intended for 150 stakeholders, advised Nigerians to become familiar with and accept the products made by indigenous manufacturers.

“Nigerians should improve their evaluation of quality. To feel confident and secure, you must assess, confirm, and ensure that the quality of what you want is there.

“This is what we mean by assurance, and giving Nigerians assurance in the products they own will persuade them to purchase more. We anticipate that Nigerians will value quality and have a positive vision for their country.

Ayeni continued, “SON is committed to ensuring quality in products in the markets so consumers can get value for their money.” She nevertheless urged Nigerian entrepreneurs to consistently produce quality in accordance with international standards.

The director-general and chief executive of SON, Farouk Salim, noted that SON’s sensitization efforts are one of the main regulatory tools used to purge the country of inferior and contaminated goods.

“Globalizing Nigerian MSMEs through standardization and quality assurance” is the focus of the sensitization campaign.

Salim stated that “At SON, we are aware that a well-informed, educated, and sensitized citizenry is the bedrock of effective regulation,” who was represented by Saleh Babaji, director, north-central SON, in our effort to advance public security, enhance quality of life, safeguard Nigerian industry, and ensure citizen security.

“The globalization of industry has been facilitated by technology. Global corporations today operate more consistently and with lower transaction costs as if the entire world were a single entity, thanks to the introduction of e-commerce activities in Nigeria caused by the development of the internet.

By displaying the certification status that they have attained, “made-in-Nigeria” items are shown to be safe, effective, and acceptable to consumers throughout the world.

“I appeal to all Nigerians to continue supporting SON in her battle against the spread of inferior and adulterated goods,” she said.

MSMEs are the backbone of the Nigerian economy, according to Shuaibu Onucheyo Enebi, director of the National Metrological Institute and the guest speaker who addressed the stakeholders. MSMEs offer a platform for enhanced job creation, revenue production, and abundant economic growth.

If properly planned and carried out, MSMEs may promote important development, innovation, and the emergence of new sectors, among other benefits, he continued.
