Former Senator Ahmed Mohammed Bima has called on the Nigerian government to prioritize the Shea butter industry, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth and reduce unemployment.
Speaking in Minna, Niger State, Bima urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tap into the sector’s untapped potential, which he estimates could bring nearly $5 billion in foreign exchange annually if fully developed.

Bima emphasized the global demand for Shea butter in chocolate, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, stressing its value as a healthier alternative for vegetable fats and oils. Despite Nigeria’s lead in Shea nut production, he lamented the lack of government support, which has stifled industry growth.
He concluded by calling for investments in infrastructure and processing machinery to unlock the industry’s economic potential.
