Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate and 1st Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, has reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to enhancing legislation that creates opportunities for Nigerian youths and addresses the issue of brain drain.
Speaking at The Companion’s 2024 conference and the 6th national discourse held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja, Senator Jibrin emphasized the need for laws that enable young Nigerians to thrive within the country.
The conference, themed “Between Patriotism and Self-Preservation,” and its discourse on “The Dilemma of the Nigerian Youth: Challenges at Home, Uncertainties Abroad,” highlighted the ethical and societal challenges facing Nigeria’s youth. Senator Jibrin acknowledged the importance of empowering this demographic, recognizing their talents, creativity, and potential to drive national development.

He assured that the National Assembly, in collaboration with the executive arm, is working to make Nigeria a conducive environment for young people to reach their full potential.
As Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, he also pledged to push for regional legislation that promotes the socioeconomic welfare of West African citizens, particularly the youth.
In his remarks, Engr. Kamil Olalekan, President of The Companion, stressed the need to retain Nigeria’s skilled professionals and curb the detrimental effects of excessive emigration on national development.
