The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced plans to hold an Investor Clinic in Ibadan from Thursday, as part of efforts to address investor concerns and promote financial literacy.

SEC Director General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, shared this update on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that the event will coincide with the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) Conference at Jogor Event Centre.

Dr. Agama stated that the Investor Clinic, previously held in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt as part of World Investor Week 2024, will provide a platform for investors to resolve issues related to their capital market investments, such as unclaimed dividends and e-dividend mandates, as well as receive guidance on navigating the investment climate.

He encouraged participants to attend with identification (such as a NIN slip, international passport, or driver’s license), proof of investment, and a passport photo.

“This event is an opportunity for investors to address any challenges they may have with their investments and engage directly with stockbrokers, registrars, and fund managers. Investors can open stock brokerage accounts, update e-dividend mandates, and resolve issues with unclaimed dividends,” Agama stated.

Agama added that the event aims to enhance investor confidence by offering an opportunity for attendees to seek professional advice on building a robust investment portfolio. “We want to empower investors to make informed investment decisions, as this is key to strengthening the market and fostering long-term growth,” he said.

The SEC DG also highlighted the importance of such events for raising awareness among new and young investors. The Investor Clinic is designed not only for seasoned investors but also for those new to the capital market who wish to learn more about investment opportunities and strategies.
