Sasakawa Africa Association Nigeria, in partnership with AGRA, has distributed agro-inputs to 7,400 farmers in Niger State to support dry season farming and promote agro-business growth.
Dr. Godwin Atser, Country Director of Sasakawa Africa Association Nigeria, disclosed on Friday in Minna that this is the first phase of the initiative. Represented by Dr. Abdulhamid Gambo, he said the distributed items include solar pumps, petrol water pumps, fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and parboiling pots.
The intervention targets farmers’ groups across 17 local government areas, enabling them to engage in irrigation farming, cut production costs, and scale their productivity. Women farmers, particularly in rice production, received specialized parboiling pots to improve processing standards.

Godswill Aguyi, AGRA’s Programme Officer, highlighted the business benefits of adopting solar-powered pumps, which reduce dependency on high-cost fuel and promote sustainable agriculture. “This technology allows farmers to operate two seasons per year, increasing output and revenue,” he said.
Beneficiaries commended the effort, noting that the equipment would help them multiply yields and improve profitability. The intervention, under the Agra-Niger State Consortium Project, focuses on enhancing resilience and income across rice, maize, soybeans, cowpeas, and onions value chains.
