In response to the economic challenges affecting many families in Nigeria, the Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Foundation is stepping up to support hundreds of widows across Kwara Central and Kwara South senatorial districts through targeted empowerment initiatives.
The Foundation has organized a business seminar in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, designed to equip widows with essential business skills to foster financial independence.
Mr. Musa Aliyu, the Foundation’s Regional Director for the North-central zone, made the announcement during the event on Tuesday, emphasizing the Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of widows.
“The aim of this project is to provide widows with the necessary skills and resources for sustainable economic independence. We want to empower them to become self-sufficient,” Aliyu stated.
Beyond business training, the ABS Foundation is also focused on protecting the rights of widows, ensuring their inclusion and participation in society. “We are committed to helping widows gain the ability to meet their own needs and maintain a sustainable livelihood.

Research shows that widowhood often results in economic and social hardship, and the Foundation is working tirelessly to alleviate this burden,” Aliyu added.
The initiative, which is free of political influence, selects beneficiaries purely based on their status as widows. The first phase targets widows from Kwara Central and Kwara South, with the Kwara North senatorial district to be covered in the next phase.
Aliyu revealed that the ABS Foundation’s long-term goal is to reach 70,000 widows across Nigeria in the coming years. “This pilot phase will support over 200 widows with training in enterprise management, empowerment tools, and opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing,” he said.
He further encouraged beneficiaries to focus on business development, urging them not to divert the support towards non-essential expenses such as jewelry or social events.
This initiative reflects the Foundation’s core mission of helping individuals and communities thrive, with an openness to partnerships that further this cause.
