Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu delivered the 36th Convocation Lecture at Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech), emphasizing the critical role of innovation in Nigeria’s economic recovery. Speaking on the theme, “Developing Export Alternatives for Nigeria’s Economic Recovery,” Sanwo-Olu celebrated YabaTech’s legacy as a leader in technical and tertiary education.
“YabaTech has been a monumental landmark in Nigeria’s educational history for nearly a century, symbolizing excellence within Lagos State,” he remarked.
A call to action for graduates
Addressing the graduating class of 2024, the governor encouraged them to embrace innovation, challenge the status quo, and aspire to redefine Nigeria’s position on the global stage.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the need to transition Nigeria from reliance on raw material exports to a diversified economy driven by industrialization, innovation, and shared prosperity.
“Together, we can create a nation that thrives not on raw material exports but on innovation and industrial growth,” the governor concluded.
