His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has given his approval for the establishment of a Task Force on Food Safety. This decision comes as a proactive measure to ensure the well-being of residents and the quality of food products in the state.
The Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture is set to kick off a comprehensive 14-day verification, validation, and registration exercise targeting all poultry farmers, fish farmers, slaughterhouses, and frozen foods companies. Starting from March 27th, 2024, until April 15th, 2024, stakeholders are called upon to participate in this crucial process at the Ministry’s premises.

The primary objective of this initiative is to compile a robust database encompassing all relevant entities involved in food production and distribution across the state. This database will facilitate efficient monitoring and inspection procedures, thereby ensuring strict adherence to food safety regulations.
By fostering accurate data collection, authorities aim to pinpoint areas necessitating improvement while proactively safeguarding public health interests. Additionally, this endeavor seeks to extend support to farmers whenever required, underscoring a commitment to both regulatory compliance and agricultural development.
It is imperative to note that the registration and verification process is offered free of charge throughout the stipulated 14-day period. Furthermore, certificates of registration will be issued upon successful completion of the exercise. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the inability to operate within the state, emphasizing the significance of adhering to established health standards.
Signed by Engr. Victor Kii, the Honorable Commissioner for Agriculture, this directive underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and integrity of the food supply chain in Rivers State.
