Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s first lady, inaugurated the inaugural edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Women Agricultural Support Programme (WASP) in Owerri, Imo state.
Under this initiative, 100 women farmers hailing from the five states of the region were bestowed with a significant sum of 500 thousand naira each, aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity.

This pioneering project, conducted in collaboration with the National Agricultural Land Development Agency (NALDA), extends its assistance to a total of 500 farmers across the states. Each beneficiary receives 100 thousand naira along with essential agricultural inputs and valuable capacity-building resources.
During the ceremony, the first lady presented cheques worth ten million naira to the spouses of governors representing the respective states. Led by Chioma Uzodinma, the wife of Imo state governor, this gesture underscores the initiative’s commitment not only to fortifying the agricultural sector in alignment with the federal government’s vision but also to fostering comprehensive development in the South East zone.
Commending the first lady’s benevolent initiative, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state emphasized the collective responsibility in ensuring food security. He urged the wives of state governors to embrace and expand the program’s reach, particularly into rural areas, thereby amplifying its impact on communities across the region.
