In a recent development, the Plateau State government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by rolling out various grants aimed at facilitating business operations within the state.
Joseph Gyang, the Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on entrepreneurship, emphasized the government’s steadfast support and empowerment initiatives tailored towards entrepreneurs.
Gyang highlighted the pivotal role of entrepreneurs in job creation, fostering innovation, and bolstering the overall prosperity of Plateau State. These remarks were made during a stakeholders’ entrepreneurship engagement meeting convened at Crispan Hotel and Resort, Rayfield road, Jos.
Gyang underscored the government’s vision aligned with enhancing human capital development, infrastructure, and industrialization in Plateau State. He outlined strategic partnerships and initiatives aimed at establishing a thriving business ecosystem to attract investors, generate employment opportunities, and catalyze socio-economic development.

Furthermore, entrepreneurs were urged to embrace technology as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. The government pledged to invest in training and educational programs to equip entrepreneurs with the requisite skills and knowledge for success.
Addressing the theme “Redefining Entrepreneurship,” Ephraim Usman, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, highlighted challenges confronting SMEs, including limited access to loans, training, palliatives, raw materials, and storage facilities. Usman expressed confidence in the government’s commitment, citing the procurement of 34 vehicles for Operation Rainbow personnel to ensure the safety of businesses across Jos city center and the 17 LGAs.
Bomkam Wuyep, Director-General of the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), revealed that SMEs contribute approximately 46% to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and account for 90% of jobs in the state. He emphasized the agency’s role in poverty reduction and commended the Mutfwang administration for revitalizing the agency to ensure the sustainable growth of MSMEs.
Stakeholders present at the engagement session urged the Plateau State government to prioritize the utilization of locally sourced raw materials to enhance revenue generation within the state.
