Oyo state Int’l Trade Fair to begin Feb. 23, aiming to support MSMEs

The Oyo state government, in collaboration with the Oyo State Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OYCCIMA), has declared that the much-awaited 2024 edition of the International Trade Fair is scheduled to commence on February 23. The disclosure came from Honourable Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Cooperatives, during a press conference held on Tuesday at EXPOYO, Samonda, Ibadan.

Acknowledging Governor Seyi Makinde’s pivotal role in reinstating the International Trade Fair, the planning committee and various stakeholders expressed their gratitude. They emphasized the fair’s significance as a crucial driver of the local economy, advocating for its annual occurrence. Fondly referred to as Ijaya, the Commissioner highlighted that the 2024 Oyo International Trade Fair promises to be a hub of commerce, innovation, and collaboration, with both government and stakeholders working hand in hand to ensure its success.

Surveyor Niran Adewoyin, President of the Oyo City Chambers of Commerce and Chairman of the Trade Fair Planning Committee, lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for expediting preparations by providing essential support and assurances. He emphasized the extensive networking undertaken with industry leaders, manufacturers, exporters, and small to medium-scale enterprises, resulting in impressive responses. Adewoyin also outlined the comprehensive arrangements made, including 24-hour security provision, sanitation facilities, electricity, and water supply throughout the fair’s duration. He underscored the array of side attractions planned, such as showcasing the region’s rich culture and tradition, along with offering local delicacies like ‘Amala, Gbegiri, and Ewedu.’

At the event, Chief Alexander Wole Akinwande, National Vice Chairman of NACCIMA and President of OODUACCIMA, along with DJ Semite and top officials from the Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Cooperatives, echoed the sentiment of appreciation towards Governor Makinde’s dedication to revitalizing the trade fair. They pledged unwavering commitment to ensuring the event’s success, noting its absence since 2009 in Oyo state. With stakeholders fully onboard, the anticipation for the revived Oyo State International Trade Fair is palpable, promising a vibrant and fruitful gathering for business enthusiasts and stakeholders alike.
