The Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has highlighted the pivotal role of intermodal transportation in unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s blue economy.
Speaking at the Nigerian Transport Sector Summit, organized by the Transportation Correspondents Association of Nigeria, Oyetola emphasized the importance of linking ports with road, rail, and inland waterways to enhance the flow of goods and boost trade.
By integrating these transport systems, Nigeria could reduce logistics costs, minimize delays, and strengthen the competitiveness of its ports in the global market.
Oyetola urged both public and private stakeholders to invest in developing seamless transport infrastructure, which he noted would not only drive economic growth but also support sustainable maritime practices.

Oyetola further outlined the broader scope of the blue economy, which extends beyond traditional industries like fishing and shipping to include tourism, aquaculture, and renewable energy.
He stressed the importance of tapping into Nigeria’s vast marine resources to create jobs, improve food security, and diversify the nation’s economy, reducing dependence on oil.
Additionally, he mentioned the Federal Ministry’s progress, including the National Strategy on Blue Economy, validated with the collaboration of AU-IBAR and Norway, aimed at promoting the sustainable use of marine resources.
Oyetola also called on the media to raise awareness about the sector, encouraging young entrepreneurs to explore the blue economy for innovation and growth.
