Former Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has called the lavish lifestyles of Nigerian business owners unsustainable, urging them to invest in their businesses instead.
Speaking at the 2024 Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) conference in Lagos, he noted that maintaining a “perception of success” diverts vital resources from business growth.
Addressing societal pressures, he observed, “Every CEO or manager feels pressured to emulate the wealthiest, leading them to spend excessively on luxury rather than reinvesting in their businesses.” He challenged Nigeria’s elites to advocate for the needs of the poor, emphasizing that their actions influence societal priorities.

WIMBIZ Board of Trustees Chair, Bisi Adeyemi, called on women to leverage the conference to further their aspirations, underscoring the need for women’s representation in decision-making spaces.
