Ogun promises support for the SheFarmers program

As part of efforts to support female farmers, the Ogun State Chapter of the SheFarmers Initiative has been created.

Mr. Samuel Adeogun, Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture, who was among the government officials present, praised the initiative and pledged that the government will connect them with possibilities in the agricultural industry.

He emphasized the Ogun State Government’s commitment, led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, to enhance the livelihoods of its residents and deepen their involvement in agriculture.

Mr. Adeogun emphasized previous programs that provided women in the cassava value chain with production inputs and financial support, and he revealed plans for a budget allocation to further empower women in agriculture.

Mr. Olusegun Dada, Managing Director of IDEAS CENTRE, highlighted the SheFarmers initiative’s great potential in empowering women in agriculture in his inaugural address. He emphasized the importance of women in long-term development plans, citing their creditworthiness, stability, and family-oriented nature as qualities that make them vital tools for promoting economic success. Mr. Dada stated, “IDEAS Center sees women as pillars of sustainability.”

Alhaja Olukemi Ogunmoye, Ogun State Coordinator for the SheFarmers Initiative, delivered the inaugural presentation and emphasized the critical role of women in advancing agricultural innovation and technology.

She emphasized that women can promote sustainable agricultural practices, enhance rural economies, and assure food security by integrating technology, education, and innovations. “Women are catalysts for progress in the agricultural sector,” she remarked.

Mr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, assured the SheFarmers of the State Government’s support and encouraged them to embrace innovation, current technology, and effective articulation of their demands.

Temitope Ande, National President of SheFarmers Initiative, pushed for strong support for women in agriculture, particularly rural women, in order for them to adopt mechanized farming and contemporary agricultural technologies. She emphasized the necessity of viable markets for their products and services and advocated for actions to improve agriculture’s economic viability.
