The Ogun State government has mandated traders at Kara Market in Isheri to relocate to Ogere International Market within 100 days.
The directive, issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Sam Oyeleye, aims to address the severe environmental degradation in the market, which lies at the state’s border with Lagos.
Oyeleye emphasized that the relocation, set to conclude by December 31, is essential for restoring hygiene and order in the area.

After the deadline, the government plans to demolish all existing stalls, shanties, and makeshift structures.
The state has been overwhelmed with reports of improper waste disposal and open defecation in the market, despite the availability of public toilets. Oyeleye warned that the government would not allow such practices to continue, as they pose significant health risks and tarnish the state’s image as an industrial hub.
He also assured traders of a smooth transition, with adequate security and support from the Ogere community during the phased relocation process.
