Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended the Gateway International Airport in Iperu-Ilishan, Ogun State, describing the project as a bold and forward-looking initiative capable of strengthening the state’s economic and strategic positioning.

Obasanjo made the remarks during a recent flight from Abuja to the airport, where he praised the vision and determination behind the project and its potential to unlock new opportunities for businesses across the state.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, shared details of the visit on his official X handle, noting that the endorsement underscores the strategic importance of the airport to the state’s development agenda.

The Gateway International Airport is expected to improve connectivity and logistics for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those operating in agriculture, manufacturing, trade and services. Improved air access could help SMEs reduce transportation costs, reach new markets and support export-oriented activities.

The project forms part of Ogun State’s broader push to strengthen its position as a regional business and industrial hub, with infrastructure investments aimed at driving enterprise growth and job creation.
