In a strategic move to harness the potential of the Special Agro-Industrialization Program, seven North-West governors embarked on a journey to Abidjan, departing Nigeria on November 15, 2023.
The delegation, representing Zamfara, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and Kebbi States, is slated to engage in high-level discussions with Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Scheduled for November 16, the meeting aims to delve into the vast opportunities presented by the Agro-Industrial Processing Zones program.
The initiative, part of the broader Special Agro-Industrialisation Program, seeks to attain food self-sufficiency, generate employment, and stimulate economic growth by processing raw agricultural commodities in regions with significant potential.

Sulaiman Bala Idris, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State governor, emphasized that the agenda includes detailed presentations and briefings on the utilization of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones program.
Dr. Beth Dunford, Vice President of Agriculture, Human & Social Development at the African Development Bank, is set to provide guidance to the governors on maximizing the benefits of the program.
Additionally, Prof. Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, Senior Special Adviser to the AfDB President on Industrialization, will offer insights into Phase I and Phase II of the program, outlining strategies for states to optimize this transformative initiative.
