According to Domingos Lopes, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angola communities, Nigeria’s exports to Angola reached $16.8 million between 2020 and 2022.

This was said by Lopes on Thursday at the inaugural interactive Angola-Nigeria business event in Abuja.

The Secretary, speaking on behalf of His Excellency Téte Antonio, Minister of External Relations, stated that the first agreement for economic, technical, scientific, and cultural cooperation was signed in 1976, and that since then, there has been incredible exchange in the areas of diplomacy, defense and security, petroleum, education, culture, and transportation.

“Over the course of the last three years (2020–2022), Angola exported commodities worth USD 5.6 million to Nigeria, while its imports were estimated at USD 16.8 million, resulting in a negative trade balance of approximately USD 11.2 million,” he said.

As a member of the system, Angola is living through a unique period characterized by structural changes intended to improve its macroeconomic circumstances.

“The Angolan government intends to count on the support of friendly countries that are always on its side to achieve this objective, and Nigeria is unquestionably one of these countries.”

According to Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, President Bola Tinubu’s administration would keep fostering fruitful bilateral relations as a conscious effort to fortify both mutual relationships.

“President Bola Tinubu wants to strengthen the ties between Nigeria and other African nations, particularly Angola,” Idris clarified.

As part of our efforts to strengthen our partnership, we are in the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Public Communication and Media Exchange with the Embassy of Angola in Nigeria.

“We expect reciprocity in this regard, as Nigeria is eager to support Angola’s domestic and foreign aspirations as well as the country’s overall development.”
