Nigeria has officially gazetted and transmitted its ECOWAS Schedule of Tariff Offers under the AfCFTA, clearing the path for Nigerian businesses to trade duty-free across Africa.
Signed by President Tinubu, the move comes ahead of the 16th AfCFTA Council of Ministers Meeting in Kinshasa and signals a major leap in Nigeria’s export agenda.
With 90% of goods now qualifying for zero duties, SMEs and manufacturers can tap into new markets, boost regional exports, and attract fresh investment. Industry Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole called it a “transformative leap” for Nigerian trade, positioning the country as a continental trade leader.

The new regime also kickstarts Nigeria’s phased tariff reduction strategy, offering 50% duty cuts for least developed African countries by 2025. As of now, other AfCFTA countries can begin accepting Nigerian consignments under the preferential scheme.
This is a golden window for Nigerian exporters to scale across borders and compete continent-wide.
