Nigeria is preparing to sign over 30 new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Brazil as both countries gear up for the second session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), scheduled for June 23–25, 2025.

The high-level event is expected to open fresh investment flows across key sectors including agriculture, energy, defence, digital innovation, and the creative economy — all of which offer opportunities for Nigerian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Announcing the initiative in Abuja, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hassan-Hadejia, said the SDM aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to deepen trade ties between the two regional giants.

Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, will lead a top-level business and government delegation to Nigeria. A key highlight will be the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum on June 23, which will bring together public and private sector leaders representing a combined consumer market of over 400 million people.

According to Trade and Investment Minister, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, the forum will launch a Digital Trade Room to support deal-making and collaboration, particularly in fintech, where Brazil’s experience in digital inclusion complements Nigeria’s vibrant tech space.

The agriculture sector is also central to the dialogue, with the two countries set to advance collaboration on animal genetics, soybean production, and mechanized farming through Nigeria’s $4.5 billion Green Imperative Programme.

Officials say other MoUs will focus on research, defence, healthcare, and cultural exchange. Creative Economy Minister Hajiya Hannatu Musawa confirmed that the agreements will create new global opportunities for Nigerian creatives, with plans to co-develop Afro-Atlantic tourism and arts projects.

With visits planned to states like Lagos, Edo, Plateau, and Kebbi, the federal government says local SMEs, agribusinesses, and state governments will have direct access to potential Brazilian investors during the three-day event.

The SDM is coordinated by the Office of the Vice President and is designed as a platform not only for diplomacy but for tangible private-sector growth, job creation, and South-South investment partnerships.
