In a significant bilateral move, Nigeria and France have entered into an agreement to tackle the challenges posed by over 2,000 abandoned mining pits in Nigeria.
This partnership, announced by Segun Tomori, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals, was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during President Tinubu’s official visit to France.

The MoU outlines plans for collaborative research, specialized training programs, and Franco-Nigerian student exchange initiatives aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills transfer in the mining sector.
This agreement is expected to unlock new opportunities for the remediation and sustainable management of abandoned mining sites, fostering environmental conservation and economic development in the sector.
