The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Zone A has introduced the Automated Transit System (ATS) to enhance cargo tracking, streamline customs clearance, and improve transparency in trade operations.
Unveiled during a training session, the ATS is designed to reduce bottlenecks, cut operational costs, and improve officer accountability.
Charles Orbih, Assistant Comptroller General and Zonal Coordinator, described it as a strategic modernization effort to enhance supply chain efficiency.

According to Z. Gaji, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs on Modernization, the ATS was developed by the Customs ICT team and will undergo a phased rollout, including stakeholder engagement and pilot testing.
The system features automated validation for cargo transfers, real-time officer tracking, and payment verification to minimize corruption and unauthorized diversions.
A live demonstration by Assistant Comptroller Usman Abba showcased how the ATS ensures secure cargo movement from ports to terminal destinations, reinforcing trust between Customs and trade partners.
