In order to boost the value chain growth of agriculture, Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has started discussions with the German Agency for International Cooperation on the establishment of free trade zones in the state.

In comparison to traditional agriculture, modern agricultural value chains typically provide wage and self-employment opportunities with higher compensation and working conditions.

The globalization of agricultural markets is resulting in new consumption patterns as well as new production and distribution networks.

During a meeting with a German development organization, the governor of the Niger state, Umaru Bago, acknowledged that due to poor value chain development, local farmers had historically received less for their products.

According to him, the goal is to create production points along the value chain to help farmers become more productive and earn more money.

Additionally, Governor Bago commended GIZ for its development efforts around the country.
