The Nigerian public has been reassured by Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, the recently appointed Director General of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), of his intentions to encourage and assist the growth of the domestic sector in order to bolster the federal government’s ambitions to industrialize the nation.

In announcing his agenda, Okeke provided this assurance and stated that his immediate plan is focused on achieving the agency’s goal of enhancing lives via quality assurance.

He claims that the comprehensive strategy he intends to implement will strengthen the naira in the long run by promoting made-in-Nigeria goods.

He stated that in order to boost job creation, reduce poverty, and restore confidence to export commerce, the organization would employ standards and rules.

In addition, he pledged to improve laboratory access and bring infrastructure up to par with international standards, particularly for items made by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMES).

Additionally, Okeke stated that his leadership will make the standards that were developed or adopted to meet industry requirements and international best practices more widely known.

Such a development, according to the head of SON, would greatly assist import and export trade.

“I have taken on the role of steward today; I have to assume complete responsibility for the organization’s operations while adhering to directives from my superiors, the Standards Council and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment,” he stated. My first responsibility going forward will be to swiftly go over the handover notes and address any issues in order to meet our deadlines for the targets.

Along with congratulating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his appointment, he gave him assurances about his commitment to diversify the country’s economy away from oil by making sure that commodities produced locally are up to par with international standards.

“I am indeed very grateful to our dear President for this appointment. I will remain focused on his agenda of homegrown economy and the industrialisation of the country. To my Minister I must thank you immensely for this recognition as I promise to pursue the realisation of the organisation’s mandate. May I also recognise the efforts and achievements of my predecessor, Mallam Farouk I. Salim, within the three years of his leadership and the other CEOs who helped numerously to improve the lives of Nigerians through standards over the years,”

“Our beloved President, I sincerely thank you for this appointment. I’ll continue to concentrate on his goals of industrializing the nation and developing a domestic economy. I must express my sincere gratitude to my Minister for this acknowledgement, and I swear to work toward the fulfillment of the organization’s mission.

“May I also acknowledge the endeavors and accomplishments of my predecessor, Mallam Farouk I. Salim, during his three years in office, as well as the other CEOs who have contributed greatly over the years to raising the standard of living for Nigerians,” he remarked.

The organization will always mirror the workers, therefore a larger emphasis will be placed on staff development in general. “I will make productivity and efficiency my watchwords as we safeguard the country from the perils of inferior products,” he promised.

He pointed out that getting rid of inferior items will eventually increase the capacity utilisation of Nigeria’s teaming industries and open up more job possibilities for young people.

“Once again, I ask for everyone’s support in this very important mandate, and I remain ever grateful for this opportunity,” he said.
