The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have reached an agreement to establish a framework that will protect personal and corporate data within Nigeria’s export sector.
Nonye Ayeni, Executive Director and CEO of NEPC, highlighted the importance of this collaboration during a meeting with Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner and CEO of NDPC, at the NEPC headquarters in Abuja.
Ayeni emphasized that the growing number of registered exporters in Nigeria, engaged in fulfilling international contracts for Made-in-Nigeria goods, must have their sensitive data protected to maintain competitiveness in global markets.

Dr. Olatunji explained that the NDPC was created to collaborate with key stakeholders to protect individuals’ data privacy, support secure transactions, and ensure that Nigerian businesses comply with international data protection laws.
He recommended that the NEPC establish a data protection unit to oversee the proper handling and processing of data in line with legal principles.
In support of this initiative, Olatunji offered the NDPC’s assistance in building the capacity of NEPC officers to ensure compliance with global standards in data protection and control.
