The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has initiated a training program for 740 youths across Nigeria, focusing on environmental beautification to foster self-reliance.
During the program’s inauguration in Katsina, NDE Director General Malam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo highlighted the initiative’s goal of generating mass employment for youths nationwide. The program is spearheaded by NDE’s Public Works Department under the new Environmental Beautification Scheme.
Represented by Katsina State Coordinator Mallam Hadi Mamman, the Director General detailed that 20 youths from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were selected for participation.

“In every state, ten participants will receive training in producing floor and wall tiles, concrete interlocking blocks, and concrete kerbs,” explained Mallam Hadi Mamman.
“Additionally, seven participants will focus on soft landscaping, including the cultivation of economic trees and flowers, while the remaining three will be trained in POP production and design.”
Mamman encouraged the trainees to commit fully to the program, emphasizing that they would receive tools and equipment to establish their businesses upon completion of the training.
One participant, Lawal Abu Saulawa, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and NDE for the initiative, confident that it would significantly address youth unemployment in the country.
He also requested that NDE provide the necessary working tools to support their business startups post-training.
