The National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) is taking significant steps to boost the nation’s non-oil exports by distributing over 120,000 high-value cashew seedlings to farmers.
This initiative, funded entirely through internal member contributions, aims to scale up Nigeria’s cashew production and increase foreign exchange earnings.
Dr. Ojo Ajanaku, NCAN National President, announced the production of the sought-after Ogbomosho or Oyo State variety seedlings across seven states, including Enugu (50,000), Edo (40,000), and Oyo (30,000). These seedlings mature rapidly and are highly prized globally.

NCAN plans to distribute a total of 300,000 seedlings, with an ambitious long-term goal of increasing Nigeria’s annual cashew production to 2 million metric tonnes.
Ajanaku emphasized the crop’s export potential and its role in job creation and national security through land utilization. He called for urgent government support from agencies like NADF, NALDA, and NASC to unlock the sector’s full potential.
