Nigerians experienced yet another nationwide blackout as the national grid collapsed on Tuesday, marking the tenth such incident since the beginning of 2024. Reports confirm that by 11 a.m. on Thursday, only 2,323 megawatts were being generated by the country’s 22 power plants, with output later plunging to zero.
The peak generation recorded for the day stood at 3,743 megawatts around 10 a.m., signaling ongoing instability within the grid.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) confirmed the outage at 11:29 a.m., notifying customers: “Dear Esteemed Customer, please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 7 November 2024, at 11:29 hrs, affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”
As of now, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet issued a statement on this latest grid failure, the eleventh collapse of 2024.
