The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised the alarm over the circulation of counterfeit Kiss brand condoms in major markets across Nigeria, warning that the development poses serious public health and business risks.
In a public alert, NAFDAC said the fake products have been discovered in key commercial centres including Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair, Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu markets, following reports from DKT International Nigeria, the authorised distributor of the brand.
The agency cautioned that counterfeit condoms do not meet safety and quality standards and may fail to protect users against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, thereby creating a false sense of security.

NAFDAC explained that the fake products often come with poor packaging, missing or incorrect manufacturer details, unclear instructions and inconsistent barcodes, making them different from the genuine Kiss condoms approved for sale in Nigeria.
The regulator has directed its zonal and state officers to intensify market surveillance and remove the fake products from circulation, while urging retailers, pharmacies and small business owners to source condoms only from authorised suppliers and report suspected counterfeit products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
