The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Tuesday sealed four rice milling businesses in Autabalefi, Masaka main market, and the motor park area of Nasarawa State for allegedly rebagging rice into counterfeit branded sacks.
The agency confiscated fake branded bags bearing names like Royal Stallion, Tomato, Big Bull, and BUA Rice, along with sealing machines and two 50kg rice sacks.
NAFDAC also placed the Nigerian Brewery depot in Masaka on hold for poor storage, as drinks were exposed to direct sunlight.

Deputy Director Benedicta Obaseki said the enforcement followed citizen complaints and was timed to protect public health as Eid-el-Kabir approaches. “We won’t allow substandard food products into the market,” she stressed.
While some operators denied the allegations, NAFDAC says all counterfeit rice will be destroyed. The agency urged Nigerians to buy only from trusted sources and check for NAFDAC numbers.
Raids will continue, and violators will face stiff penalties.
