Federal Capital Territory, the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) Executive Secretary, Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, announced a significant initiative dubbed the Ginger Recovery Advancement and Transformation for Economic Empowerment (GRATE).
The initiative, valued at N1.6 billion, aims to provide vital support to ginger farmers, consisting of a comprehensive input package. This was unveiled during the launch of the Ginger Blight Epidemic Control Taskforce support Initiative, supported by the office of the Vice President, in Kaduna.

The support package, tailored to aid affected farmers, includes a range of essential items such as high-yield seed variety, fertilizers, and pesticides. Abu emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the importance of rejuvenating ginger production in rural communities promptly.
Marian Moon, Technical Assistant on Agriculture to the Vice President, underscored the government’s commitment to agriculture and ginger farming, recognizing Nigeria’s potential as a leading ginger producer globally. Moon urged farmers to ramp up production to meet growing demand, citing Nigeria’s competitive advantage in the global market.
Meanwhile, State Governor Uba Sani, represented by Deputy Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, lauded the federal government’s intervention, acknowledging the superior quality of the state’s ginger. Encouraging farmers to redouble their efforts, he emphasized the significance of their role in sustaining Nigeria’s position as a top ginger producer worldwide.
