In a statement released on Friday by his Special Assistant on Media, Lizzy Okoji, the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, has called on Nigerians to suspend their nationwide protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Audu reassured citizens that President Tinubu is diligently working to alleviate the country’s economic challenges. He emphasized the government’s commitment to reviving the steel industry, aiming to create 500,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.
“I appeal to my fellow Nigerians to suspend the nationwide protests and engage in dialogue to address our concerns and expectations from the Tinubu administration,” Audu stated.

He highlighted several initiatives demonstrating the government’s responsiveness to the public’s needs, including the implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage and the promotion of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative, which aims to reduce transportation costs by 70%. President Tinubu has also directed the disbursement of N50,000 uplift grants to over 100,000 families per state for three months, impacting nearly 5 million families nationwide.
Additionally, strategic measures are being implemented to reduce food prices within 180 days, including importing 250,000 metric tonnes of wheat and maize to support small-scale processors and millers.In the health sector, President Tinubu has ordered the redesign of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, attracting $2.5 million in financing for National Primary Health Care to enhance citizens’ access to healthcare.
Audu affirmed that he and his Cabinet colleagues are working relentlessly under President Tinubu’s visionary leadership to implement various policies aimed at achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria. “The ongoing reforms in the steel sector will not only revive our steel plants but also attract Foreign Direct Investments, contributing to economic growth and diversification,” he added.
