Chimaobi Atu, the representative for Enugu North and South in the National Assembly, has urged leaders at all levels to invest in youth empowerment as a strategy to address widespread insecurity and unemployment in Nigeria.
Atu made this appeal in Enugu during the launch of a training and empowerment program for 150 Senior Secondary School (SS3) students and recent school leavers in his constituency.

The four-day training program, running from May 14 to 18, 2024, aims to equip participants with skills in the production and marketing of chemical products. In his address, Atu emphasized the importance of nurturing economically self-reliant and socially responsible young people in Enugu State who can contribute to the country’s growth and development.
Atu pointed out that the high crime rate in Nigeria is partly due to the large number of unemployed individuals who turn to crime for survival. “Our future depends on human capital development and empowering our youth. By building their entrepreneurial skills, we can reduce insecurity and create job opportunities,” he stated.
He encouraged participants to take the training seriously and urged instructors to be diligent in their teaching.
