The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), has empowered about 100 elderly persons with disabilities and elderly caregivers of children with disabilities through its annual support programme. The initiative, titled “Cash Support and Medical Outreach to Elderly Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Caregivers,” reinforces the state’s commitment to inclusive growth and social protection under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The programme, held at the LASODA premises in Alausa, Ikeja, featured the disbursement of financial support and access to medical services for beneficiaries drawn from across Lagos State. Beyond welfare, the initiative supports economic participation by helping beneficiaries meet essential needs, improve mobility, access healthcare, and in some cases, sustain small livelihood activities that contribute to household income and local economic activity.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the initiative reflects the state government’s dedication to inclusion, dignity, and economic participation for vulnerable groups. She noted that empowering elderly persons with disabilities also strengthens family stability and community resilience, which are essential components of a sustainable local economy.
Mrs Oyetunde-Lawal added that LASODA has continued to implement programmes that promote independence, community engagement, and social inclusion. She reassured beneficiaries of the government’s ongoing support while encouraging them to remain engaged with relevant institutions to improve their quality of life and economic wellbeing.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as timely and impactful, especially during the festive season. The initiative further reinforces Lagos State’s commitment to building an inclusive economy where no one is left behind, and where social welfare complements enterprise development and community growth.
