In a decisive move, the Lagos State Government has closed down five markets in Mushin and Odi-Olowo areas, citing environmental pollution and other violations.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab and Special Adviser Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu gathered stakeholders, including Private Sector Participants (PSP) and waste operators, for a meeting focused on enhancing service delivery and ensuring transparency.

The affected markets, sealed by the collaborative efforts of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), include Awolowo Ultra Modern Market Odi-olowo Ojuwoye Mushin, Ojuwoye Market Odi-olowo Ojuwoye Mushin, Mushin Main Market, Daleko Market Mushin, and Odo Ashimowu Market, Mushin.
Wahab emphasized the closure’s alignment with the 2017 Environmental Management Protection law and proposed digitizing cash collection for PSP operators to enhance transparency while sustaining business and employment.
